Sic 'Em and Fight On!

I was totally remiss in mentioning in my last post that Jackson had Baby's First Major Football Weekend. It was HUGE.

There is an old Texas legend that if a child's parents went to opposing universities, the very first football game where those two teams meet determines where that baby's allegiances will lie. Okay, I completely made that up, but how CRAZY that the very first Baylor (I'm a proud alumni who even did two years of football recruiting) vs. Oklahoma (Denton's alma mater where I don't think he attended a single game but is now kind of a fanatic) was BAYLOR FOR THE WIN! We watched the entire game and I was on the edge of my seat while Denton was being a Negative Nancy because Baylor was playing great right out of the gate.

I actually cried at the end when they scored that last touchdown - I'm pretty sure I didn't miss a home game my freshman through junior years and that I went to most games as a senior. I have watched this program closely for over ten years now and have seen the heart that Baylor has for their football team, even when times were tough. They are so deserving of the success they have had this year. I just can't even explain. And the fact that they beat Oklahoma for the first time in the hundred years they've played them - Jack and I were very, very proud.

It was a really fun game and I wish so badly that we had been there. I knew the second they scored that last touchdown that they were going to rush the field (Denton rolls his eyes when Baylor does that - what's wrong with being thankful for every win?) and what people didn't see was that the BU and OU bands did a flash mob at halftime:

Also a first for our marriage: Denton rooted for USC. Since OU has met SC in a BCS championship and it did not go in Oklahoma's favor, Denton cannot stand SC. My complicated school allegiances are documented here, and long story short since my brother went to USC during its recent glory days, I'm a pretty big Trojans fan.

To document Denton momentarily rooting for USC, we put Jackson in this Trojans jersey to take pictures for his Uncle David. Jackson very seriously wears this proud school's colors.

Long Weekend

This little jersey is so cute and I think he looks JUST LIKE my brother in the above picture. Here Jack is about to say "Fight on!"

Long Weekend

My brother says we are confusing Jackson and we need to pick one school and stick to it, but I don't think it hurts to expose Jack to a broad range of football scholarship, err, academic opportunities.

If you like underdogs and agree that Baylor's quarterback Robert Griffin III (also known as "RG3," check out his Facebook fan page where all of Baylor is pooling its resources to make him a legitimate Heisman contender. Just don't watch the video that's at the top right now (30 with the Thiiird) because it doesn't speak highly to Baylor's History Department, where my minor is from. Swear that Baylor is a great school despite RG3 not knowing that the pilgrims came over on the Mayflower. The fan page is here.

I'm so excited for bowl season! Denton is not. Sorry, Sooners!

  1. lol! If the legend is true, then it looks like Cora will go to Baylor, but Carys will go to A&M. So, hopefully, Carys will buck the tradition since she has a date in Penland dining hall in 17.5 years! :)

btw, I loved your previous post about working. I have the same sort of situation going on. And, I feel it is perfect for me (although, clearly not for everyone.) You're a great mama! So, don't worry about what anyone thinks about anything. You do what is best for you and for sweet little man. Gotta keep him healthy and strong for that date coming up!! ;)

  2. Melissa, you are so cute as always! I appreciate the encouragement.

And Carys just seems like a Baylor girl, IMO :-)
